About Susan Bauer
I came to painting later in life, following a Stage IV cancer diagnosis. After treatment and remission of my illness, I realized that my life had changed. I could no longer postpone my lifelong yearning to paint. With the instruction and support of some excellent teachers, and hundreds of hours of self-directed study, I discovered immeasurable joy in watercolor painting.
I was born in England, grew up in Ohio, and lived in several states before settling in beautiful North Carolina. I also lived and taught for six years in Africa, where I gained deep appreciation for indigenous artists.
I appreciate the unique challenges of watercolor painting, as well as its opportunities for expression in a variety of ways. What I did not expect, in becoming an artist, was how deeply I would fall in love with color and light! The interplay of rich color and light informs most of my work.
I live with deepest gratitude for each day on this good earth. I donate 50% of the proceeds of the sale of my art to the cancer hospital that has taken such good care of me.
